Knights of Columbus

On March 29, 1892, at St.Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut, a young Catholic Preist, Father Michael J. McGivney, gathered nine leaders of hi s parish to inform them of his plan to provide assistance to Catholic widows and orphans. the Franternal Benefit Society known as the Knights of Columbus provides for the strenghtening and protection of the Catholic Family. Today, with our membership excceding 1.7 million, we have become the largest and most influential Catholic Fraternal Order in the world.

We have provided millions of dollars in loans for building Catholic schools and churches. We aid the poor, the homeless, and the developmentally disabled. We have our own fraternal insurance program, exceeding forty-five billiondollars of protection in force on our members and families.

The primary requirement for a man to become a member of the Knights of Columbus is that he be a Practicing Catholic. The requirement for him to remain a mmember is payment of modest dues and continuingt o practice his faith. Minimum age for membership is 18, there is no maximum.
