This process of initiation is adapted to meet the needs of women and men who are not baptized or who are baptized in another Christian church. There are many persons who have practiced the Catholic faith of his/her spouse for years but have never made a formal profession of faith in the Catholic Church. You might consider calling the church to inquire about expectations or requirements to become a Catholic. Contact Ellen Bollard 206-522-7674 ext 304 or feel free to speak with Father Oliver directly.
The journey, begins in September and continues to Easter and beyond. It is divided into four stages:
1) Evangelization. The inquirers begin their spiritual journey by asking questions reflecting the Gospel message with other Christians.
2) Catechumenate. The Catechumens (unbaptized) and the Candidates (baptized) grow in faith, interact with the community, participate in liturgical rituals, learn about Catholicism, and about sharing their faith.
3) Purification and Enlightenment. This is a time of intense spiritual preparation during the Lenten Season in preparation for the Easter Vigil and the Celebration of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
4) Mystagogy. The Neophytes (newly initiated) reflect upon their experience of the Sacraments of Initiation, and deepen their participation in the parish/church community.
A similar program for children (RCIC) is available.
